St. Jarlath’s College Raise Funds for Cancer Fund for Children

TY Enterprise students of St. Jarlath's College, Tuam raised €900 for Cancer Fund for Children during their recent Christmas Market.

St. Jarlath’s College is proud to announce the success of their TY Enterprise Christmas Market, a student-led initiative ran by the Student Enterprise Programme that combined business, creativity, and community spirit to support a worthy cause.

Earlier this academic year, the Transition Year Enterprise classes, under the guidance of Mr. Skehill and Mr. Glynn, launched a Student Enterprise Programme (SEP) Christmas Market. As part of this initiative, mini-companies were set up, and students designed, produced and sold a variety of goods and products within the school and the wider community.

Beyond developing entrepreneurial skills, the students demonstrated great generosity by donating a percentage of their sales to Cancer Fund for Children, specifically contributing to the development of Daisy Lodge, a therapeutic short-break centre to be built on the shores of Lough Corrib, Cong, Co. Mayo. This facility will provide children across Ireland affected by cancer, along with their families, with a safe and supportive space to spend quality time together. Construction is set to begin later in the year.

Adding to this effort, the St. Jarlath’s College Student Council, led by Ms. Clíona Feerick, also played a key role by setting up a stall selling hot chocolate and treats, with all profits going towards the same cause.

Their collective efforts raised €900, which was recently presented in a cheque to Cancer Fund for Children in the grounds of St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam.

A huge thank you to all the students, staff and the wider community who supported this initiative— your kindness will have a great impact on families facing the challenges of childhood cancer.
