Hospital Based Support

St John’s Ward Crumlin

We provide ongoing practical and social support in Crumlin Children’s Hospital, to children diagnosed with cancer and their families.

We have a dedicated Cancer Support Specialist, Kim based on St. John’s Ward who works as part of the wider team, ensuring all families are aware and have access to the support services available to them.

Our Youth Support Worker, Lily provides dedicated age-specific support to children diagnosed with cancer age 11+. This includes opportunities for individual and group support whilst in hospital.

Both their roles help make time for families on the ward a little easier by:

  • welcoming families to the ward, providing them with relevant information about available support and creating a space to digest all the information provided
  • providing opportunities for parents to feel heard, supported and helping to connect them with parents in a similar situation
  • helping families avail of support from other charities and community based services
  • providing informal engaging group support to young people age 11+ during their time in hospital through a range of creative age appropriate tools
  • providing support in both individual and group settings
