St John’s Ward Crumlin

We know that spending time as an inpatient/parent on the ward can be tough at times. The roles of our Cancer Support Specialist and Youth Support Worker based at St John’s Ward Crumlin help to make time on the ward for families a little easier.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, our Cancer Support Specialist and Youth Support Worker can provide informal social and emotional support to ensure children diagnosed with cancer and their parents feel supported during their time in hospital. This role is funded by the Katie Nugent Fund at Children’s Health Foundation and delivered in partnership with Children’s Health Ireland.

Meet Kim, our Cancer Support Specialist

Hi, I’m Kim, Cancer Support Specialist based at St. John’s Ward, Crumlin. I provide social and practical support to the families of inpatients on St. John’s ward and, when needed, those attending
the Day Unit as day patients.

My role involves welcoming families onto the ward as well as ensuring they have all the information needed to make informed decisions around support they may require.

Meet Lily, our Youth Support Worker

Hi, I’m Lily, Youth Support Worker based at St. John’s Ward, Crumlin. My role is focused on supporting young people (aged 11-16+) during their time on the ward or the Day Unit. I carry out informal individual support based on the unique needs of each young person. I also develops group opportunities for young people to improve peer connection and reduce isolation.
