Cancer Fund for Children Launches Sun Safety Campaign Across NI Schools

Cancer Fund for Children have partnered with Gordon's Chemists to launch their Hats and Shades event, promoting sun safety across NI schools.

We’re delighted to have partnered with Gordons Chemist to launch our annual Hats and Shades event. This campaign has been running for over 10 years and aims to educate nursery and primary aged children across Northern Ireland on the importance of staying safe in the sun, all with a healthy dose of fun and fashion!

This campaign was launched alongside Sun Awareness Week (2nd-8th May) and will run throughout the Summer Term. Schools and nurseries are invited to hold a Hats and Shades Day as they welcome in the warmer weather, giving pupils the chance to wear their favourite hats and shades, in return for making a donation to support Cancer Fund for Children, so no child has to experience cancer alone.

The Hats and Shades Campaign is a great way of raising awareness of how our children can enjoy the sun safely, which is why Gordons Chemists is delighted to continue to support this worthwhile initiative. The unpredictability of our summers can lead to many people thinking there is less risk of sunburn. However, even a small amount of exposure to the sun without the adequate protection can do damage – which is why it is important to educate our children from a young age on the importance of staying safe in the sun.  Wearing appropriate sun protection while playing in the sun, is just one of the many ways to protect children from harmful UV rays.  We at Gordons are also extremely proud of our extensive range of sun protection offered in all of our 53 stores throughout NI. Speak to our staff today and they can advise on products that are specially formulated for children!

We are encouraging nurseries and schools across Northern Ireland to get sun savvy and sign up to take part in our Hats and Shades event. Every school that registers to take part will receive a free fundraising pack with activity sheets, interactive video and the option of a school visit from one of our fundraisers. We can’t wait to see schools get behind this campaign and rock their favourite Summer accessories!
