Cancer Charities Across Ireland Come Together to Mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
To mark September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we joined our friends at The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre and Childhood Cancer Ireland to host a special “Light It Up Gold” event in two Belfast hospitals, complete with lights, balloons and goodie bags.
Childhood cancer charities from across the island of Ireland have come together to highlight the importance of awareness, research, and support for children, young people and families impacted by cancer.
Taking place on Wednesday 2nd and Friday 4th September, in the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre and Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, these events provided patients with a safe space where they could have fun while raising awareness of the support offered by these incredible charities.
We’re delighted to ‘Light It Up Gold’ on the ward again this year alongside The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre and Childhood Cancer Ireland to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The reality of childhood cancer reaches far beyond the hospital setting and impacts the whole family. By coming together this September, charities across the island can create special opportunities for families to have fun, build connections, and learn more about the support available to them.

Our Light it Up Gold events are a great opportunity to join our colleagues from Cancer Fund for Children, Friends of the Cancer Centre and Childhood Cancer Ireland to shine a light on the impact of a childhood cancer diagnosis. Daily life changes dramatically following diagnosis, but events like these help to create some fun and a much-needed distraction for families and allow us to demonstrate how we are there for them throughout their journey.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is an important time and an opportunity to show families impacted by cancer that they are not alone. We are really delighted to work alongside the other charities to highlight the support on offer through the vital work of each organisation. Not only that, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to create special moments for families and bring a little joy to young people.
