A day at the Races with our Ambassador Rachael Blackmore

What a day at the races! We held our inaugural charity Race Day at Leopardstown on Sunday 2nd March. It was an afternoon filled with top class racing, great food, entertainment, prizes, connection and awareness.

Highlights of the day included an audience with our ambassador Irish jockey sensation, Rachael Blackmore and Derville Meade who shared their take on the industry and the upcoming Cheltenham Festival.

Guests were also moved to hear from Cancer Fund for Children’s Young Ambassador, Alex McEleney (18) who spoke about his cancer diagnosis, the impact cancer has had on his young life and the support he has received. It was a powerful and inspiring story, skilfully delivered and left a lasting impact.

“Our race day at Leopardstown was an incredible opportunity to raise vital funds to support children and young people impacted by cancer and their families. We were delighted to sponsor two races on the day. Massive congratulations to the winners.

There are a host of people we would like to thank for making the day possible including; Enda Brady our wonderful MC, our ambassador Rachael Ambassador, Derville Meade, our amazing Young Ambassador Alex McEleney, the best dressed sponsors Ribbon Rouge & Magee 1866, Leopardstown Racecourse, artist John Fitzgerald who painted live, our photographer & videographer David Cavan, our fabulous entertainment The Bentley Boys, Carol Mallon, Amy Power & Russel Ferris for all their support in helping make this event come together and of course everyone who attended and donated so generously to help ensure children and young people don’t have to face cancer alone.”

Bernadette McGarvey, Cancer Fund for Children Partnership and Philanthropy Manager

Every month across Ireland, up to 28 children and young people (age 0-24) are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer Fund for Children’s vision is that no child faces cancer alone. We can only chieve this with the support of business and the community.
