Kerrie’s Story
The family of Katrina, Kerrie and John have benefited from Cancer Fund for Children support including a short break at Daisy Lodge. Katrina shares her journey with us and how essential the support has been for her daughter Kerrie.
“This support has been vital, especially for Kerrie our 12-year-old daughter. Cancer Fund for Children really understands how children are affected and how to look after them during such a difficult time.
In January 2021 I was I was diagnosed with Triple X Negative Secondary Breast Cancer. I was very unwell as I had other illnesses before being diagnosed with cancer, which restricted my treatment options. I have Refractory Coeliac Disease and Crohn’s disease and as a result I also have no Spleen and am dependent on 24/7 peg feeding for my survival.
My whole world fell apart and all I could think about was our beautiful daughter Kerrie and my heart broke for her. Kerrie had already been through so much before my cancer diagnosis. I was told that my body was not strong enough for chemotherapy and that I should enjoy my life as there was only so much the doctors could do.
Cancer Fund for Children changed everything as I knew they were now going to help Kerrie through this time as she was withdrawn, scared and confused. Regina was our support specialist who quickly connected with Kerrie, helping her massively. Regina was not only a wonderful support specialist, but she soon became a friend to all of us. Cancer Fund for Children opened up a whole new world to us and brought light, hope and happiness into our lives
We also recently enjoyed a short therapeutic break at Daisy Lodge which was beyond anything we have experienced before. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with smiles and we felt right at home. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality, accommodation and beautiful scenery. It was breath-taking, a true pocket of happiness, a heaven on earth!
At Daisy Lodge we felt so special, important and loved. I was so unwell I wasn’t sure if I should even go, but I am so glad I did as I felt right at home, even as I was so sick. Kerrie had her first reflexology treatment and after a few giggles she was so relaxed and calm. Thank you to Patsy we all enjoyed your wonderful treatments!
It brought us together as a family, sharing time together and making precious memories. We will always remember Daisy Lodge and our experience will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are so grateful for Cancer Fund for Children.”
