Support Irish rugby legend Rory Best as he tackles his third and final Rory's Miles To Mayo challenge!
The Challenge
In 2026, Irish rugby legend Rory Best will captain a team of business leaders on a powerful journey – to walk 9 marathons in 9 days, covering over 235 miles throughout Ireland. Together, they will walk to ensure that no child faces cancer alone. This is the final chapter in a trilogy of fundraising walks for Cancer Fund for Children.
From Saturday 12th – Sunday 20th September 2026 these participants will put their physical and mental endurance to the test, walking around 50,000 steps daily across Derry/Londonderry, Belfast, Dublin, Kildare, Carlow, Cork, Limerick, Galway before finishing in Cong, Co. Mayo.
Each has also made a commitment to raise a minimum of £/€50,000 to go towards vital services in aid of children and young people impacted by cancer.
The History
This is the third and final chapter of Rory’s Miles To Mayo, a series of intense walking challenges created by former Ireland and Ulster Rugby Captain Rory Best, to raise funds for children and young people impacted by cancer.
In 2021, Rory completed his first Rory’s Miles to Mayo challenge, walking 180 miles from Daisy Lodge in Newcastle, Co. Down to the future site in Cong, Co. Mayo, raising over €1 million. The second Rory’s Miles 2 Mayo challenge in 2023, saw Rory walking 220 miles from Dublin’s Aviva Stadium to Cong, raising €1.5million, breaking ground on the new Daisy Lodge on arrival.
In 2025, Rory’s mantle was taken up by a team of business leaders who took on the 26 Mountains To Mayo challenge, climbing the highest peak in every county across the island of Ireland. Together they raised over £1.5/€1.8 million in support of our services.
We are so excited that Rory and the creator of the 26 Mountains To Mayo challenge, Roger Johnston are joining together for this final journey, which promises to be bigger and more impactful than ever!
The Impact
Each week across the island of Ireland, approximately 10 children and young people (aged 0-24) are diagnosed with cancer. The funds raised through this challenge will enable us to provide vital support so these children and their families don’t have to face their experience alone.
Our Cancer Support Specialists provide this support in the family home, in hospital and at our therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle, Co. Down.
Due to growing demand, we are currently building a second Daisy Lodge on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, Co. Mayo. Once operational, this purpose built facility will allow us to provide restorative breaks to even more families, when they need it most.
A childhood cancer diagnosis can impact on the whole family. Hospital appointments, treatment and the pressures of navigating this experience can leave a family feeling disconnected and exhausted. Short breaks at Daisy Lodge provide children with cancer a space to rest, time with their families and build connections with others their own age going through the same thing. They get to be treated like the stars they are and that’s why I’m delighted to be doing my bit to help bring another therapeutic facility like this to Co. Mayo.
