Dublin to Westport Cycle Raises €93,000
From Friday 8th May until Saturday 9th May, a team of 63 cyclists cycled from Dublin to Westport to raise money in aid of children and young people impacted by cancer
This was the third year of this charity challenge led by New Beginnings Cycling Club and their Club Chairman Ollie Brogan. Starting in 2024, this incredible group have raised over €184,650 to help Cancer Fund for Children be there for families when they need them most. This year, the group’s challenge started at Westmanstown, Dublin, crossing through Mullingar, Athlone and Ballinasloe before ending in Westport.
We are delighted to have raised such a significant amount in aid of Cancer Fund for Children and the families they support. It was a tough challenge but we worked together to see it through and I’m so proud of everyone’s efforts. We had 63 cyclists in total, 32 are from Mayo and the rest are from other parts of Ireland and we had a lot of support from the Islandeady Cycling Club who are also based in Mayo. It was great to get time on the road to chat to one another about our own motivations for taking on this challenge.
Thank you so much to everyone who got behind us and made this fundraising total possible.
We provide vital support in the family home, in hospital and at our short break centre, Daisy Lodge. We are currently building a second Daisy Lodge on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, Co. Mayo which was the motivation behind this fundraising challenge. Together, Ollie and his team are working to help open the doors of Daisy Lodge so it can provide families impacted by cancer with a safe, supportive space where they can focus on spending time together.
