Climb Croagh Patrick to Support Children and Young People with Cancer

We are calling on the people of Connacht and beyond to lace up their hiking boots and tackle Croagh Patrick on Saturday 23rd May in aid of children and young people impacted by cancer.

Pictured are three female Cancer Fund for Children staff members. They are standing side by side and smiling at the camera with Croagh Patrick visible in the background. The staff member in the middle is holding a daisy sign.

Standing at an impressive height of 764m, Croagh Patrick, nicknamed ‘the Reek’, is an important site of pilgrimage in the stunning Co. Mayo and has long been seen as a holy mountain. Taking approximately three to five hours to complete, walkers will be rewarded with glorious views from the summit of the Nephin Beg Mountains and the waters of Clew Bay, as well as refreshments.

Every week across the island of Ireland, approximately 10 children and young people (aged 0-24) are diagnosed with cancer. As a Cancer Support Specialist, my role is to provide these children and their families with emotional, social and therapeutic support so they feel equipped to cope with their diagnosis and the impact it has on their lives.

The money raised through this challenge will enable me and the rest of my team to continue providing this support, in the family home, in hospital and at Cancer Fund for Children’s therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge. Please consider signing up to help us make a difference today.

The Croagh Patrick Climb in May is especially meaningful, as the we continue to progress with the build of our second Daisy Lodge centre on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, Co. Mayo. Due to open in Spring 2027, this purpose-built facility will provide families impacted by cancer with a restorative space where they can focus on spending time together.
