Young people create packs for children in hospital

‘Colour, Create, Connect’ is a pack that contains art supplies and a booklet created by our Youth Engagement Group outlining how young people impacted by cancer can use this pack to brighten up their space while in hospital.

This initiative was informed by our Youth Engagement Group’s own experiences of being in hospital, either as a patient or visitor. They felt that the impersonal nature of hospital rooms often made the experience of being in hospital more scary and so they wanted to provide young people with materials they could use to reflect their own personality. They also identified that it was easy to miss visitors while in hospital as they may be sleeping or away from their room for scans or treatment. Therefore, they created materials that young people could use to exchange messages with people they may not get a chance to see in person.

It was incredible to see this initiative come to life through the incredible efforts of our Youth Engagement Group. This has been introduced to hospitals in Belfast and Dublin and we are so proud that feedback has been so positive, with one young person stating that the packs made them feel happy.

We created these packs so that young people impacted by cancer can have more colourful rooms and create a positive environment while in hospital. We want young people to use these supplies to connect with others like other patients, staff and even family members who come to visit.
