Armagh Support Group Mark 30 Years of Fundraising

A fundraising group based in Armagh have spent the last 30 years raising funds in aid of our vital services. Yesterday, the group’s incredible efforts were celebrated at a special event held at Daisy Lodge.

The Armagh Support Group was set up by Celia Bodel who lost her son Graeme to cancer when he was just 15 years old. After retiring from the group in 2016, the mantle was taken up by Celia’s daughter Karen whose own family was supported by Cancer Fund for Children when her son Tom was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2015.

I have seen firsthand the devastation childhood cancer has on a family, especially when the outcome isn’t good. When we lost Graeme, there was very little support available to us. Cancer Fund for Children provides vital services to the whole family, and I didn’t truly understand how valuable and crucial these services are until we needed them when Tom was receiving his treatment.

Throughout the years, the Armagh Support Group have organised a range of fundraising events, from sponsored walks and climbs to haircuts and body building challenges. Together, they have raised over £300,000 to help us ensure no child faces cancer alone.

We are so incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the Armagh Support Group for their passion, dedication and generosity across the last 30 years. This group have embraced fundraising activities and connected with their local community to raise vital funds and awareness in aid of children and young people impacted by cancer, and we were delighted to show our gratitude with a special event at Daisy Lodge.
