National Lottery Funding for Daisy Lodge

 In News

We are thrilled that The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded Cancer Fund for Children a grant of £500,000 to our therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge.

Over the next five years this grant, which has been awarded through the National Lottery People and Communities programme, will not only help us provide short breaks to families who have a child or parent diagnosed with cancer it will also help us enhance families’ therapeutic experience.

Through a programme of group support, complementary therapies, education days and health and wellbeing mini breaks we will help build resilient families who are better equipped to cope with the emotional impact of cancer.

Speaking about the exciting news our Residential Services Manager Raph O’Connor said,

“Over the next five years this project will support 400 additional families helping them to cope better with cancer and connecting them with others in their community. Our short breaks offer children and parents a unique opportunity to access peer-support and share their experiences of cancer with other families. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Lottery Community Fund and our dynamic team in Daisy Lodge who play an integral role in delivering this vital service.”

Cancer Fund for Children provide practical and emotional support, as well as free therapeutic short breaks to children diagnosed with cancer or living with a parent with cancer.

Therapeutic short breaks provide families dealing with the impact of a cancer diagnosis with the opportunity to spend quality time together in a safe and supportive environment, far removed from hospital wards and treatment regimes. Our short breaks encourage rest and relaxation, teamed with unique support provided by our Cancer Support Specialists. Families also have the chance to meet and gain support from others in a similar situation.

Our team offer a therapeutic programme for families to take part in whilst staying at Daisy Lodge. These sessions and workshops are designed to enhance wellbeing and allow them to spend time together as a family. Individual sessions are also available for any member of the family who would like to avail of this focused support.
