Five Reasons To Climb Slieve Donard
Our Slieve Donard Climb takes place on Sunday 27th May and is a great way to challenge yourself and raise much needed funds for local families affected by cancer.
Here’s 5 reasons why you should lace up your hiking boots:
1. The views are breath-taking
From the summit (2550ft above sea level), there are spectacular views of the Mournes and Newcastle. On a clear day, you can see as far as Scrabo Tower, the Wicklow Mountains and Isle of Man. Trust us, this is a view you will never forget.
2. It’s one of the UK’s favourite walks
Last year, Slieve Donard was voted as one the UK’s favourite walks. It’s definitely one of Northern Ireland’s most popular too. Join us and you’ll see why!
3. Touch a part of history
The Mourne Wall runs throughout the Mournes, over the top of no less than 15 mountains, and is an impressive 22 miles in length. Completed in 1922, the wall took over 18 years to finish with many skilled local tradesmen employed seasonally to build it. It runs the whole way up to the top of Slieve Donard, so when you reach it, you know you’re almost there!
4. There’s no feeling like it
It’s not every day you climb a mountain! You’ll be so proud of yourself when you reach the top. We can’t promise the weather on the day, but we can guarantee an unbelievable feeling of achievement.
5. Supporting children with cancer
Best of all, by conquering Slieve Donard you’ll be doing your bit to help support local children with cancer. The money you raise will enable our Specialists to be there for families so they don’t have to face cancer alone.
