Read On

Get school pupils reading for fun and support children impacted by cancer too!

What is Readon?

ReadOn is Cancer Fund for Children’s school reading initiative that encourages pupils to read for fun whilst helping to support children and young people impacted by cancer. During ReadOn, children are sponsored to read for fun at home or in school. Pupils can read anything from comics to poetry. Younger children can listen to stories or use picture books. ReadOn is ideal for any age group.

Brand new for this year’s ReadOn we have prizes to offer!

  • Every school that registers will be entered into a draw to receive a £200 monetary voucher
  • Every school that registers will receive a £25 One4all voucher which can be used to award the Top Pupil (either Top Fundraiser or Top Reader, you can decide how best to use this incentive)

When is Readon?

ReadOn can take place anytime throughout the school year. It is ideal for Librarie’s Week in October, Non-Fiction November and World Book Day in March.

ReadOn is also great as it can take place at home or in school.

What will my school receive?

Schools will receive a ReadOn pack with posters and teachers resources. Every pupil will receive a bookmark and pencil as a thank you! ReadOn is also perfect for school assemblies. Our Schools Fundraiser can come out to your school to introduce ReadOn and after for a thank you presentation in assembly.

SCHOOL VISITS – YOU CAN REQUEST A VISIT FROM OUR SCHOOLS FUNDRAISER (IF COVID RESTRICTIONS ALLOW), ALLOWING PUPILS THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR ALL ABOUT THE WORK OF THE CHARITY.

Why take part?

Fun & Easy: Pupils have fun and feel inspired to read for pleasure.  Pupils can set themselves personal challenges/goals; a chapter a day, a book a week.

Educational: It is a fantastic way to introduce pupils to new authors and new books

Library Time: Schools have reported that more pupils visit the library

Winning: As well as encouraging pupils to read more, our prize draw and incentive for pupils are great reasons to get involved

Where does the money go?

Your school will make a difference to children impacted by cancer. By simply picking up a book and reading, pupils across the island of Ireland have helped Cancer Fund for Children support families through a range of services including therapeutic short breaks at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle and one to one support sessions with our Cancer Support Specialists.
