Give the gift of support to children like Maisie this Christmas

 In Fundraising, Home Page, News
My name is Wendy and I am writing to ask you to consider giving to Cancer Fund for Children’s Christmas Appeal to help families like mine, who are living with cancer, here in Northern Ireland.

Maisie was eight months old when we found out she had cancer. The day I returned to work after maternity leave I came home that evening and my mother-in-law said to me that she had noticed something about Maisie’s tummy. The next morning I took her to the doctors and he sent us to Antrim Hospital straight away. The following Tuesday she started chemo. It was all so quick.

Cancer Fund for Children Cancer Fund for Children have a real understanding of how a cancer diagnosis has a devastating impact on the entire family. As well as providing emotional and financial support, they also offer families free therapeutic breaks away, recognising the importance of spending quality time together as a family. We were invited to stay at Daisy Lodge which is Cancer Fund for Children’s purpose built therapeutic centre based in Newcastle, Co. Down.

The first time we went to Daisy Lodge we had found out that day that Maisie was going to be receiving another six months of chemo. That news was like being told your child has cancer all over again and we were devastated. At that time our short break there was a life line. It was exactly what we all needed at this particular stage of Maisie’s journey.

And that’s what makes Cancer Fund for Children so special. They realise that every family’s journey is unique and work to meet each family’s individual needs, whether it’s one to one support, a therapeutic short break, or help to cover the increased costs a cancer diagnosis brings with it.

Last year our lives were in devastation and most of our memories from that time are sad ones but Cancer Fund for Children allows you to have moments when you can be normal, and times when you can smile. Maisie got to meet Santa, something I never thought she would be able to do, because Cancer Fund for Children invited us to their Christmas party. Some of our best memories from last year are because of Cancer Fund for Children.

Please donate today

For Cancer Fund for Children to be able to provide these services to families like mine, they need to fundraise from the local community which is why I’m asking you to donate to their Christmas Appeal.  A gift of £30 could help pay for a Cancer Support Specialist to provide a family like mine with the emotional and practical support they need.

Now Maisie is funny, hilariously funny, very mischievous, so energetic and enthusiastic about everything. She’s just a character, keeping us on our toes! Maisie has finished treatment and is currently in remission. Her smile is bigger than ever! Thank you for helping families like ours.

We wish you a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.
