Labour Relations Agency Make a Difference to Children Impacted By Cancer
The Labour Relations Agency has gone the extra mile to support children and young people impacted by cancer!
As our Charity Partner for 2020, the team, which has an office in Belfast and a regional office in the North West, selected Cancer Fund for Children before the pandemic hit and throughout the year raised a phenomenal £3,000 in support of young people and families coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis.
Undeterred by the start of lockdown, staff organised and took part in a range of fundraising events including raffles, bingo nights, and a Christmas Jumper Day. One of their fundraising highlights saw six teams of five staff members complete the ‘Big Team Challenge’, a six week virtual race across Italy which took place in May and June. The route which starting in Genoa and ended in Rome was 1,160km (721 miles) long, equivalent to a staggering 1,691,922 steps per team.
Speaking about the success of our Charity Partnership, which combined fundraising with a focus on staff wellbeing, Diane Edgington, Employment Relations Officer and Charity Partnership Lead said,
“At the Labour Relations Agency we were very moved by the incredible work carried out by Cancer Fund for Children. We wanted to do as much as we could to support them as our charity partner, but as a result of lockdown we had to come up with some fun, virtual activities that staff could get involved in, instead of our usual get-togethers. We set a target of raising £3,000 and were delighted to achieve it, thanks to the generosity of staff. We hope that the funds will help families across Northern Ireland who are battling cancer and its many challenges.”
Alex Murdock, our Corporate Fundraiser added,
“It has been my absolute pleasure to work alongside Diane and her incredibly energetic team who, despite the effects of a global pandemic, remained committed throughout the year towards ensuring no child has to face cancer alone. Thank you so much to all the team for reaching your wonderful fundraising target through your step challenge, bingo events, All Wrapped Up day and much more. It was wonderful to see the fundraising activities being combined with a focus on staff wellbeing during such difficult times.
Our Cancer Support Specialists have been working hard to ensure local families continue receiving vital emotional and practical support when we are needed now more than ever, and it simply wouldn’t be possible without amazing people and organisations such as the Labour Relations Agency by our side. Thank you.”
All the funds raised by the Labour Relations Agency will help our Cancer Support Specialists provide emotional support and free therapeutic short breaks at a time when young people and families need this support more than ever. From everyone at Cancer Fund for Children and on behalf of the families we support, a massive well done and thank you to the Labour Relations Agency for working in partnership with us throughout the year. We simply could not be here for young people coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis without local businesses by our side.
